Some Tips For Your Tea

The best tips for your tea brewing!

It’s tea time folks! Even us cold brew loving Joyriders can vibe with a cup of freshly brewed tea. Our partners over at In Pursuit of Tea gave us some advice on how to achieve that perfect cup. Here’s three tea tips for you:

  1. The Water You Choose: There are two elements to a cup of tea, the tea itself and of course, the water you use. You may be surprised to know that the water you choose is going to have a big effect on the cup itself. Soft water, hard water, tap water, filtered water, bottled water, each type will bring out different flavors in a cup of tea. Is there a right answer? No, the best advice is to try different types until you find the one that best suits you.

  2. Water Temperature: In general the hotter the water, the faster the tea is going to extract. Green and White teas tend to be perform better with lower temperatures (definitely below boiling), between 160°F - 180°F, the perfect temperature range to bring out the natural sweetness of the teas. Meanwhile, other teas perform better at boiling, 185°F - 210°F. Side note: stop heating up your water in the microwave, you deserve better.

  3. Length Of Infusion: The longer your tea sits in water, the stronger it will be. Now keep in mind it, you need to make sure you balance the amount of tea vs. the amount of time you leave it in the water. In a standard mug, try about 3 grams of tea leaves (about 2 teaspoons), taste it after a minute, and then again every 30 seconds.

Overall, there is no incorrect way to brew tea. Everything is done to taste and your personal palette. The best advice anyone can give you is that the way to learn about tea is to keep drinking it. Drink it as much and as often as you can.
